Jasprit Bumrah was finally back in action for India after more than two months. He was part of India’s playing XI on Friday (September 23) against Australia in the second T20I of a three-match series in Nagpur. It was his first match for the Men in Blue since July 14, and in his comeback match, the star speedster was in full flow. He bowled two overs out of the eight and conceded 23 runs in them and got rid of Australian captain Aaron Finch, who was looking in good touch.
The 28-year-old Bumrah, who was dearly missed by the Indian team in the Asia Cup earlier this month, impressed with his line and length and his pin-point yorker, which even left Finch applauding him after he dismissed him in the rain-hit game. Apart from getting the better of Finch, Bumrah left Steve Smith on the floor, as he had no answer to his unplayable delivery.
Impressed by Bumrah’s display in his first match after making a comeback from a back injury, former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria praised him and especially mentioned the yorker against Finch.
Speaking on his YouTube channel after India’s win in the second T20I by six wickets, Kaneria said that Bumrah could very well be breaking the toes of batters at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
"Jasprit Bumrah is back on track. Opposing teams must be cautious as he appears to be in great rhythm. While he started with a wide, it was over 140 kph. He then bowled a brilliant yorker to dismiss Aaron Finch."
"Finch couldn't stop himself from applauding the delivery. It is never easy to make a comeback after an injury. He bowled an excellent spell under pressure. He is going to break people's toes at the T20 World Cup."
Bumrah, who is India’s leading pacer in all three formats of the game, has been selected in the 15-member Indian team for the upcoming edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This year’s tournament will be his third straight T20 World Cup. He was part of the team in the 2016 and 2021 editions of the tournament as well.
