Maharashtra Minister Proposes 'No Homework In Schools' | What Teachers, Students Have To Say | Discussion

Maharashtra school and education minister Deepak Kesarkar has proposed a ban on homework in the school. He said instead of giving homework and burdining students , teachers should take the responsibility of students learning. However some of the teachers have expressed their disagreement with the minister stating that a complete ban on homework is not advisable and can be harmful for children. In our special discussion Afrida Rehman Ali spoke to our guests Dr Sameer Dalwai, Pediatrician, Director of New Horizon, Health And Research Foundation, said that large numbers of the school have a write and learn system. It's to get written, learn and get marks.Are we talking in terms of the education process or just written, learning process?Urvashi Makhija, Vice Principal, Billabong High International School said that I feel that homework should totally be done away with. Whatever is taught in the school needs to be reinforced with homework but it should not overburden the child.
