New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday mentioned a New York Times report which praised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's education model in the national capital. Sisodia said the world is praising the good work done by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led government in Delhi.
A NYT report stated that the AAP government has been successfully overhauling the education system in the national capital.
It specially mentioned the names of Sisodia and AAP leader Atishi who used to frequently visit the government-run schools in Delhi and question the administration on filthy toilets, leaked taps and rundown classrooms and several other issues.
“You would enter a school and you could smell the toilets from 50 meters away,” Atishi told NYT, adding that “The message was that if the government can’t even clean schools, how is the government serious about education?”
The report further stated that the AAP government spent 769 billion rupees on the 1,037 schools it runs between 2015 and 2021.
The money was spent to construct new classrooms and other facilities, including sports infrastructure.
The Kejriwal government also formed management committees that ensured parents, teachers and local officials to express their concern in regards to the education system in the schools.
The teachers who used to indulge in 'household' work in the schools were taken to task, plus the government held training sessions with teachers during summer vacation.
A Kejriwal government sent one teacher from almost all the schools for training in foreign institutions, including the University of Cambridge and the National Institute of Education in Singapore, the report stated.
The students are also given gardening and how to be happy and mindful classes.
The report also highlights the complaints of teachers and staff who complain of salaries and benefits.
