New Delhi: Several parts of central and western India are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the next few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), active monsoon conditions are likely over West Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat in association with depression over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, a fresh Low-Pressure Area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around August 19. It will lead to enhanced rainfall activity over east and central India from Friday. Notably, the western end of the monsoon trough is south of its normal position and is expected to remain there during the next three days.
The IMD, in its weather bulletin, said, "Fairly widespread/Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over south Rajasthan on 16th & 17th; Gujarat Region & ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 16th& 17th; Saurashtra & Kutch during 16th-18th and over Konkan & Goa on 16th & 20th August, 2022." Isolated very heavy rainfall likely over southwest Rajasthan and Saurashtra and Kutch on August 17.
Eastern and central states of India are also likely to receive heavy rainfall over the coming few days. "Under the influence of likely formation of Low Pressure Area over North Bay of Bengal around 19th August; fairly widespread/Widespread light/moderate rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh during 18th-20th August, 2022," the MeT Department said.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha on August 19 and 20. Isolated heavy rainfall is also predicted over Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal on Friday and Saturday. Similar weather conditions will also prevail over Bihar and east Madhya Pradesh on August 20.
The Western Himalayan region of India, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and the northern plains are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the next few days. The weather agency said, "Fairly widespread/Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Himachal Pradesh on 16th, 19th & 20th and Uttarakhand during 18th-20th." Rainfall is also forecasted over east Uttar Pradesh on August 19 and 20 and over west Uttar Pradesh on August 20.
