An earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan early Wednesday, killing at least 255 people, authorities said. Information remained scarce on the magnitude 6 temblor that struck Paktika province. government official said that the death toll may rise as over 500 people are seriously injured. The epicentre was about 44 km from Khost city in Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51 km, said the US Geological Survey (USGS). The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) asserted that people in Pakistan and India also felt tremors.
