Before India head off Down Under for the all important T20 World Cup 2022 in October, they take on Australia in a three-match T20I series in what will be a great preparation for the upcoming mega event. India return with a full strength squad at the series with Jasprit Bumrah andHarshal Patel back to the fold after they missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to injury.
The biggest positive coming into this tournament for India will definitely be the return to form of Virat Kohli. At the Asia Cup 2022, Kohli emerged as the top scorer for India with 276 runs at a staggering average of 92.
His best innings came when he opened the innings against Afghanistan in the absence of Rohit Sharma. He scored his first T20I century smashing 122 runs from 61 balls, thus ending his much talked about 1020-day century drought in international cricket.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the series opener, Aussie T20 captain Aaron Finch said that writing Kohli off would be a brave thing to do considering he is one of the greatest players in the world right now.
"You'd be a very very brave man to write off Virat at any stage. He has shown for 15 years now, that he is one of the greatest players of all time. Particularly in T20 cricket, he is someone who has developed his game and grown his game over for such a long period. You are always trying to prepare to the best of your ability when you are coming up against Virat," Finch said.
"He is superb... 71 international hundreds, that is just ridiculous, isn't it," added the Australian captain while speaking about Virat Kohli's ton against Afghanistan at the Asia Cup.
India take on Australia in the first of the three T20Is at Mohali on Tuesday (September 20) followed by two games at Nagpur (September 23) and Hyderabad (September 25).
