New Delhi: War of words have broken out between BJP and Congress over former Nagpur unit Congress president, Sheikh Hussain's derogatory statement against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole on Wednesday said that police will take appropriate action against, while Union Minister and BJP leader Anurag Thakur lambasted Hussain, saying the remarks show the grand old party's mentality to use such words for the PM of our country.
Criticising PM Modi over the questioning of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate, Hussain wished upon PM "a dog's death".
Reacting to the controversy, Patole said he was unaware of the statement by Hussain. He said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government calls a wrong a wrong and that is why the police have filed an FIR against Hussain. Patole further tried to corner the saffron party over now suspended Nupur Sharma's statement on Prophet Muhammad, which was opposed by several Muslim nations.
Coming down hard on the Congress, Anurag Thakur said Sheikh Hussain’s comment is shameful. Heaping praise on PM Modi, the Unionn minister said, "He is the PM who provided free ration, got back stranded Indians from Ukraine in the most difficult circumstances and you say these things. Absolutely shameful."
The Congress leader made the controversial remark during a demonstration held near the Enforcement Directorate's office.
The police registered a case against the former Nagpur unit Congress president at the Gittikhadan police station after local BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to DCP.
Hussain has been booked under Sections 294 (punishment for obscene acts committed in public or obscene words spoken in public) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code.
