Amidst the speculations that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot is most likely to assume the post of Congress party's president in the upcoming elections, the party leader noted that 'even without any post, he will continue to work.' "I've previously specified...had it been like that if things were under my control, I will be on various posts for 40yrs, but even without any post I will continue to work for peaceful atmosphere, youth," Ashok Gehlot said while talking to reporters.
"As far as post of Congress president is concerned, I've been in politics for 50 yrs & held various posts for 40 yrs what more can a person expect, now the new generation should get a chance so that we together can provide leadership in the country," he added.
"There is a tradition in Congress from the beginning that whenever there's a Legislative party meeting for election or for choosing CM face we pass a one-line resolution to give rights to Congress president. This will happen today as well," the Rajasthan CM further added.
Notably, speculation is rife that Ashok Gehlot is most likely to step down from the Rajasthan CM chair if he is elected the Congress president during the upcoming elections next month and that party colleague Sachin Pilot is likely to assume the post of Rajasthan CM.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a press conference in Kerala during the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' made it pretty clear that the decision on 'one person, one post' is expected to be followed. "What we had decided in Udaipur (one person, one post) is a commitment of Congress and I expect that commitment will be maintained (on party's presidential post)," he said.
Speaking on the matter, Rajasthan Minister Subhash Garg said that everyone will accept whatever the Congress high command decides, but they should remember how two years ago there was a conspiracy in alliance with BJP to topple the state government.
"They should keep in mind people who think along the lines of party ideology and keep unity," he said rejecting Pilot's candidature. Garg further stressed that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot should be taken in loop (in deciding the next CM) so that the party can again form government in 2023. "It's regrettable how some people (referring to Sachin Pilot), who broke discipline, are considered for the post (of CM)," he added.
