The Kashmir Files, directed by filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, has received critical acclaim and commercial success. The film, which had its theatrical release on March 11, stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles. While the film has landed in many controversies since its release, it's also in the news for its steady performance at the box office. In three weeks, the film has entered Rs 200 crore club and is now inching towards Rs 250 crore mark at the domestic box office.
Anupam Kher, who plays the lead role in The Kashmir Files, has opened up about the film's success in an interview with Times Now. The veteran actor explained that the success of this film comes with a bag of mixed feelings, primarily because The Kashmir Files is not about celebration, but about the pain of Kashmiri Hindus.
"Itni kamyabi toh meri kisi film ko nahi mili hai, especially where I am doing the lead role. Toh mixed feeling hai. I should be jumping, I should be celebrating, I should be very happy and I am very happy and thankful to god, but also there's a sense of sadness because the film is not about celebration. The film is about pain, tears, sadness and loss of sense of belonging," he said, adding that he used to think what he would do if ever his film crosses Rs 200 crore mark.
"Mai iss samay shooting kar raha hu. Aam zindagi mei maine socha tha ki kabhi agar meri film 200 crore karegi toh mai kya karuga. Mai pagal ho jaauga, mai sadko pe bhaaguga. You see humare yaha hierarchy hai na heroes ki films 100-200 core karti hai," he said, adding that while he has always considered himself to be a central character, usually, in showbiz, his "category" of actors aren't told that their films will do Rs 100-200 crore business.

"I am happy and I am thankful that the audience has loved the film. The audience is not only paying for the ticket, but they are also taking the film with them, taking that emotion with them," he added.
The cinema veteran was also compared to the Khans of Bollywood, and to this, Kher explained that he is not apologetic at all. He opened up about breaking the myth of typecasting and also talked about taking up roles that are way too different from one another. "I think abhi middle class feeling bahaar aa rahi hogi, but I am very thrilled. Thank you for including me," he said.
