Kolkata: The capital of West Bengal, still has no luck with Monsoon, as rains are delayed in the eastern part of the country. The monsoon usually sets in by 11 June, every year in Kolkata.
The Southwest Monsoon showers have finally touched Mumbai and Konkan after remaining stagnant on the West Coast for nine days. However, it is stuck in the eastern part and still has not made an onset over Kolkata.
Even though Kolkata experienced thunderstorms over the past few days, the Met office said that the Southwest Monsoon is unlikely to arrive before the next two to three days.
The expected time for the Southwest Monsoon to advance over Kolkata is around June 16 and 17 as conditions of rain are prevalent over Gangetic West Bengal.
“There is not much progress in the advancement of the monsoon. We see a very slim chance of the monsoon arriving before July 14,” said G K Das, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata. The monsoon has remained slow since its early arrival in north Bengal.
“The intensity of the rain is likely to be less and the hot-and-humid condition will stay,” said Das.
