Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in a recent statement said that expansion of the 24x7 water supply project would cost around Rs 170 crores. The growth plan of this project includes the construction of other water supply infrastructure in the nearby areas as well.
This project will have water supply infrastructure for 34 villages which are merged into the Pune civic limits. The administrator of the Pune Municipal Corporation, Vikram Kumar said, "The civic administration has prepared primary estimates for the infrastructure argumentation for water supply in the merged villages. It would cost around Rs 170 crore. The tendering and other processes would be designed accordingly."
The officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation stated that nearly Rs 90 crores would be spent on this project in the initial stage. In the first phase, the work will be done in Bavdhan, Sus and Mhalunge.
A meeting was conducted to address the water supply issues in the merged areas. The work on 24x7 water supply project was halted for months when the appointed consultant dropped the project mid-way. A new consultant was appointed by the PMC. To check whether the project is feasible, an advisor has been appointed.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court had ordered the Pune Municipal Corporation to provide water supply in the merged villages, after a petition was filed by the people.
Ritvik Joshi, who is the advocate for the petition, said: β€œThe court has directed PMC and the state government to give their say in this matter. But the reply from these agencies is yet to come.”
