At a time when several Hindi films are performing unimpressively at the box office, filmmaker Anees Bazmee, who helmed the successful Bhool Bhulaiyaa two, has opened up about the film's performances. The director, who helmed the box office blockbuster starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in lead roles, believes that the Hindi film industry needs to make good quality films.
The film earned over Rs 181 crore when it released in theatres. The filmmaker stresses that whatever the audiences liked 5-10 years ago, it’s not something they would like now. Anees explains that this is because the audiences now have global exposure as they have seen content from across the world. So if one really wants them to step out of their homes, they need to offer them something better.
In an interview with ETimes, the filmmaker said: "We need to learn that we need to make good quality films. Whatever the audiences liked 5-10 years ago, they don’t like it anymore. Because they have global exposure. They have watched content from across the world during the pandemic while sitting at home for free. So now, if you want them to step out of their homes and buy a ticket to watch a film in the theatre, you need to give them something better."
The filmmaker also shared his take on the North versus South debate and said that he doesn’t find any substance in this debate. He added that both the film industries have been making good films, and it’s just a matter of chance that this time Hindi films haven’t worked as well as those made down South.
