Just because we got 237, does not mean we cannot improve: KL Rahul defends under-fire Indian bowling unit

KL Rahul came out in strong defense of the Indian bowling unit despite criticism after the high-scoring thriller in Guwahati. The Men in Blue have been struggling with their death bowling in recent times. Rahul also called on for the batting unit to improve despite making 237 in the second T20I.

After a poor Asia cup campaign that saw them fail to defend their trophy after a Super 4 stage exit, Team India have hit form right in time for the 2022 T20 World Cup. After making a strong comeback against Australia to win the series 2-1 despite losing the first game, India have sealed another series win by taking a 2-0 lead in the three-match affair against South Africa.

Although the results are going Rohit Sharma & co's way, there are major concerns for the team going into the 2022 t20 World cup which will begin later this month. There are obvious issues with the bowling attack whose struggles in the slog overs are becoming repetitive in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Even in India's 16-run victory in Guwahati on Sunday (October 2) against South Africa, the Proteas managed to make 80 runs in the last 5 overs of the innings. These issues were on full show at the Asia Cup where India lost vital matches to Pakistan and Sri Lanka while defending totals.

Indian vice-captain KL Rahul has come out in strong support of the bowling unit and claimed the team needs to get better overall. He also stated there is a lot for the batters to get better at despite scoring a huge score of 237. Rahul stated that due to the dew it was hard for the bowlers to grip the bowl.

"Overall as a team there's a lot that we need to get better at. Not only for us but for all teams. These are great opportunities for all teams to experiment and to try and see what works for them. Just because we got 237 doesn't mean there is no room for us to improve as a batting unit. In the same way, there is a lot of room for the bowlers to improve as well," said Rahul in the post-match press conference.

"In the last game they restricted the team to 106 and today they went for runs. You have to take into consideration the conditions also, the pitch, it was humid, and there was dew, so it was hard for the bowlers to grip the ball. And when the opposition is chasing 240, you know batters are gonna come hard, try and smash every ball. It becomes a little difficult for the bowlers to execute their plans. That's the challenge for us as we play more games, that is something we talk about. As individuals, we practice hard to rectify them," he added
