Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to start its dengue control drive in the city from July 1. The drive will be carried out across 41 wards by conducting door-to-door surveys that will be GPS tagged to help civic bodies keep a log of people who are suffering from fever.
The BMC's Member Mayor-in-Council (MMiC), health, Banibrata Banerjee, said that so far there has been no report of any significant occurrence of dengue cases in the BMC region. “The dengue season starts after the onset of monsoon. We have already started conducting mosquito control drives throughout the year and it will be intensified from July 1,” Banerjee said, as reported by the Times of India.
BMC will also conduct larvae detection and cleaning up drives on different institute premises. Larvacide will also be sprayed at these premises. The BMC has already started collecting mosquito larvae samples to identify the species and learn what kind of larvacide can be used for it.
