Raipur: A mob in Durg has beaten up three men dressed as Sadhus on the suspicion of them being child-lifters. The three individuals were allegedly acting suspiciously and speaking to children in the area. The incident took place at a Dussehra fair in the city.
According to Durg SP, Abhishek Pallav, “We've been unable to verify their credentials. But what citizens did was wrong, no one should take law in their hands”
A police team reached the spot once they received information on the incident and took the three victims to a local hospital from where they were discharged soon as they had only sustained minor injuries, reported news agency PTI.
The victims were found to be natives of Rajasthan and though they were not carrying any identification documents, the SP said that they were allowed to leave after questioning. Based on videos of the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered and 30 persons have been summoned for questioning, he added.
Durg Police have also appealed to people not to react to rumours of child-lifting with violence and take the law into their own hands.
This is a developing story…
