In the most recent update on the death threat letter case, it has been confirmed that the Mumbai Police has issued a firearm license for self-protection to actor Salman Khan. The threat letter was allegedly issued by the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang.
A senior IPS officer confirmed to Hindustan Times that the license has been printed post Salman Khan's meeting with Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar regarding the application for a weapon license. Salman had reportedly submitted the application soon after the threat letter was first found.
The report further stated that standard procedure was followed and the file was then sent to the office of the deputy commissioner of police (zone 9) for verification and to check for criminal record. After the step was through and cleared, owing to the seriousness of the threat letter, the headquarters have cleared the file.
Further, the report also stated that Salman's representative has collected the license and was handed over post receiving acknowledgment of the person. It was on July 22 that the actor had met with Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, which is when the license procedure was completed.
Meanwhile, in 2018, Bishnoi had threatened Khan during the blackbuck poaching case. The threat came as the Bishnoi gang consider the blackbuck to be a sacred animal and Salman's involvement hurt their sentiments. The gun license owned by Salman earlier, which he reportedly used in the blackbuck shooting case in 1998 allegedly expired. In addition, he was also booked under the Arms Act and the case is still pending.
