Chandigarh: A man identified as Amir Khan (27) has been sent to judicial custody for molesting a female morning walker at a public park in Sector 27. Khan is said to be mentally challenged and is known in the area for indulging in various obscene acts. He was caught by locals and handed over to the police, as reported by the Indian Express.
Khan, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, has allegedly stripped naked and stood in the middle of the road several times. According to Police sources, Khan’s mother had earlier attempted to convey the condition of her son to the police through a political leader representative of the area in the municipal corporation but failed to produce any medical evidence to substantiate her claims. ‘The woman claimed that her son was being treated by a self-styled godman.”, added the Police, as reported by the Indian Express.
Residents of Sector 27 have been complaining about the presence of suspicious elements loitering in the area’s public parks for a long time. Devinder Singh Babla, former civic body councilor of the area, said, “The stalking, molestation of a morning walker in a public park is a serious matter. Our resident welfare association held a meeting with personnel of Sector 26 police station. The police assured us of stricter patrolling by its beat personnel in their respective beats/areas, twice a day.”, reported the Indian Express.
