Former Maharashtra Minister Anil Deshmukh Gets Bail In Money Laundering Case, But Will Remain In Custody

Anil Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra home minister, was granted bail by a single-judge bench of Justice N J Jamadar of the Bombay High Court in a money laundering case brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Deshmukh remains in detention in connection with the CBI case even though he was granted bail in the ED case. The court stated that the bail order would take effect on October 13. Deshmukh was detained in November of last year and moved to the high court after his bail request was denied earlier this year by a special PMLA court. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the High Court to quickly hear and resolve the NCP leader's case because it had been pending for six months.
