Kolkata: A professor of Jadavpur University's International Relations (IR) department has been barred from entering the college campus after being allegedly accused of attempt to rape by a researcher. Police have identified the accused as Herkan Neadan Toppo.

Toppo has been debarred from the IR department for his alleged attempts to rape an MPhil student.

According to The Times of India, Imankalyan Lahiri, head of the department, said,"As directed by the vice-chancellor and dean, faculty of arts, the supervisor of the MPhil scholar will be changed and necessary action will be taken so that she can submit her thesis and apply for her PhD programme.”

A general body meeting was called by the MPhil student near World View on Monday regarding the security and safety of women in the Jadavpur University campus.

The student claimed that the professor tried to rape her after calling her in his quarters on Saturday afternoon to discuss the research project.
