In the ongoing Test match between India and England at Edgbaston, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant scripted a historic 222-run partnership on day 1. This was the joint-highest partnership for the sixth wicket in Indian cricket history away from home.
The duo assembled at the crease with the team struggling at 98-5. Their sensational partnership helped the team put up a massive total of 416. Both players scored centuries as the visitors took command of the historic Test match in which the Jasprit Bumrah-led side is aiming to seal its first-ever series win on English soil 2007.
The Jadeja-Pant duo complimented each other perfectly. While Pant was the one batting aggressively, Jadeja put a price on his wicket on the other end. Ahead of the third day of play, in an interview with Sky Sports, ex-Indian head coach Ravi Shastri asked Jadeja a hilarious question 'The whole world wants to know, what's this special language you were speaking to Rishabh Pant? Because to keep Rishabh 'thanda', or organised, you have to speak some special language."
Jadeja answered saying, “We all know how attacking he is. We know he loves to take on the bowlers. I just told him to make sure the shot selection is right. Try and play sensible at times, because sometimes, you keep playing shots that can get you out. I was just trying to calm him down."
Jadeja and Pant's incredible effort helped India take a massive 132-run lead after England were bowled out for 284 runs. Jonny Bairstow scored a century for the Englishmen. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers for India with four scalps to his name while Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets.
After Pant and Jadeja's heroics, Bumrah had set a world-record with the bat by smashing 29 runs off Stuart Broad's bowling. In the same over, the veteran English pacer conceded 35 runs making it the most expensive over in Test cricket history.
