AAP demands Jai Ram Thakur govt’s resignation after Khalistan flags tied on main gate of Himachal Pradesh assembly

Khalistan flags that were found tied on the main gate and boundary wall of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Dharamshala have been removed and graffiti has been painted again. This incident is unfortunate, said state BJP chief Suresh Kumar. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur condemned the incident calling it a cowardly act and said that strict action will be taken.
New Delhi: After Khalistan flags were tied to the main gate of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Dharamshala, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said nothing can be more shameful than this.
In a tweet, AAP Himachal Pradesh tagged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and said his government allowed this incident to happen despite heavy security.
“Your government has no right to continue in power, the entire government should resign immediately,” it said.
Need for more security arrangements: Himachal CM
Meanwhile, the CM has condemned the incident calling it a cowardly act.
“Only Winter Session is held in this Assembly, so there is a need for more security arrangements here during that time. Incident will be probed and strict action will be taken,” he said.
The CM also dared the culprits that if they have the courage, then they must come out during day time and not at night. Thakur further said that FIR has been registered and CCTV footage is being analysed.
Urging the people of the state to maintain peace, the CM said “we will soon review security at our borders with other states.”
The legislative Assembly in Dharamsala has been hosting the winter session annually outside the state capital since 2005.
The posters, written in Punjabi, surfaced in the morning. Also, the wall near the gate was inscribed with the word Khalistan, a separatist movement seeking to create a homeland for Sikhs.
Dharamsala is some 250 km from the state capital.
‘An act by some mischievous elements carried out in the night’
The police said investigations were on and also asked the locals not to feel threatened by the posters.
“It is an act by some mischievous elements carried out in the night,” a senior police official told IANS.
Meanwhile, SDM Dharamshala Shilpi Beakta said that the administration is inquiring about the matter and a case will be registered under relevant sections of the Himachal Pradesh Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1985.
This is like a wake-up call for us to work with more alertness, she added.
