Vikram Vedha director Pushkar opens up on clashing with Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1: 'You can’t beat that...'

Pushkar and Gayatri directorial Vikram Vedha, starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles is clashing head on with Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 when the two films release in theatres on September 30. And even though the target audiences of both films may be vastly different - with one being a action-entertainer while the other a period piece, both films are expected to draw the audience in large hordes to theatres.

However, the directors and stars of Vikram Vedha are seemingly downplaying the massive clash that will take place at the box office. At a recent media interaction in Delhi, the team of Vikram Vedha infact put their weight behind Mani Ratnam's film stating that the they cannot beat PS1.

Responding to a query about the box office competition between the two films, Pushkar, one half of the director duo said, “Ponniyin Selvan is a classic text, a tale of intrigue set during the Chola Empire. You can’t beat that. It’s a six-volume book that I read back in the day. That text has been an inspiration for every writer coming out of Chennai. We do our part and they have done theirs. Let’s hope people go and watch both the movies. I think Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday. I’ll be going and watching that movie for sure.”

However, Hrithik Roshan added that he wold be focusing on his film and since he has not read the book, for him its just Vikram Vedha. Saif, on the other hand urged everyone to watch both films.

For the unversed, Ponniyin Selvan 1 is a fictionalised account on the Chola dynasty, focusing on the early days of Rajaraja 1. The film stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobjita Dhulipala in pivotal roles. Vikram Vedha, on the other hand is a remake of Pushkar and Gayatri's Tamil hit of the same name, starring Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan.
