Etawah: A student of the Saifai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room on Saturday evening.
The deceased Himanshu Gupta (21) hails from Gorakhpur. He was a first year student of MBBS and joined the medical college this February, reported The Indian Express.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Etawah) Jai Prakash Singh said the post-mortem report of the deceased revealed the cause of death is hanging. Police said they have not found any suicide note.
The incident came to a light when a hostel mate of Himanshu went to his room to ask him to join him for dinner, according to police.
SHO (Safai) Ramesh Singh said Himanshu’s hostel mate repeatedly knocked on his door but when he did not respond, the latter informed other students and the security guard.
“When they broke open the door, they found Himanshu’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. A police team reached the hostel after receiving the information, brought down the body, and sent it for post-mortem,” the SHO said adding that the motive for taking such an extreme step was not yet clear.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have alleged that their son has been murdered. The mother of the deceased claimed that her son was allegedly murdered and urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to order a CBI probe.
Following the death of the medical student, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to submit a report in this regard within 24 hours.
