Sonali Bendre blames underworld for losing films early on in career, says, 'There was not a proper, formal industry status'

One of the most well-known actors from the 1990s, Sonali Bendre, recently discussed how Bollywood has been influenced by the criminal underworld. She said that the underworld component had cost her movie roles in the 1990s. Sonali added that she had assistance from her husband, Goldie Behl, a film producer, during the phase.

When Sonali was only 19 years old, she made her Bollywood debut with 1994 movie Aag. She had already starred in a number of TV commercials and adverts before getting her first role in a movie. Sarfarosh, Diljale, and Major Saab were among her best 1990s works. With The Broken News, she recently made her OTT debut.

Sonali appeared on The Ranveer Show podcast to promote her comeback project and confessed that she had been passed over for jobs because of pressure from the underworld. She stated, “Many clean sources were financing films. But, there was not a proper, formal industry status. So, there was a lot of unregulated finance coming in as well, and banks will not give it to you. So, that limit was there.”

Sonali claimed that she made an effort to avoid "dodgy" film producers, and that it was her then-boyfriend and current husband Goldie who gave her the insight she needed to do so. Due to pressure from the industry underworld, the actor did, nevertheless, lose a lot of roles. “There were times when I was supposed to do a role and it went to someone else because someone called them up. But then the director or the co-actor will call you and say ‘I have that pressure and I can’t do anything about it’ And, I understand,” she said.

The Broken News, Sonali's most recent project, premiered on Zee5 on June 10. Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar were among the other notable actors in it. Vinay Waikul is the director.
