New Delhi: The Centre, on Monday, approved a Z-plus security cover for newly-appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan. An order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to Delhi Police. Chauhan was appointed as the second CDS of India last week, nine months after his predecessor General Bipin Rawat died in a tragic chopper crash.
Chauhan took over as the CDS on Friday. He is the first officer to have been made a four-0-star general after his retirement. "I am proud to be assuming the responsibility of the highest rank in the Indian Armed Forces. I will try to fulfill the expectations from the three services and tackle all challenges and difficulties together," he said after taking over as CDS.
Chauhan will be the principal military advisor to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on all the military matters related to the three services. Besides, he will also be the head of Department of Military Affairs and the permanent Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC).
Shortly after taking over the office of the CDS, Chauhan called on Rajnath Singh and met the three service chiefs at South Block. In fact, he was also present for the induction of Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) fleet at Jodhpur on Monday.
His last posting before retirement was as Eastern Army Commander. As CDS, he is expected to continue the foundation work done by his predecessor late General Bipin Rawat towards achieving the much-on-track tri-services integration, besides other initiatives such as modernization of armed forces on the lines of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and self-reliance in defence.
