IMD predicts heavy rainfall over several states, issues red alert for ten districts of Odisha

​​The IMD has issued a red alert for ten districts and an orange alert for several other districts of Odisha. The districts for which a red alert has been issued are Nuaparha, Balangir, Baragarh, Kalahandi, Subarnapur, Bauda, Anugul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.

IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha

New Delhi: Active monsoon conditions are likely over central parts of India and Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days and over the Northwest region from 14th-15th August, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday. The weather office also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states till August 18.
The IMD has issued a red alert for ten districts and an orange alert for several other districts of Odisha. The districts for which a red alert has been issued are Nuaparha, Balangir, Baragarh, Kalahandi, Subarnapur, Bauda, Anugul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.
Sambalpur DM Ananya Das today said that incessant downpour and opening of Gate 34 of Hirakud dam have led to a flood-like situation in the district. She said over 100 houses were submerged.
In its daily bulletin, the department predicted widespread to isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms over Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana on 14th and 15th; Konkan, Goa, north Madhya Maharashtra from 14th-16th; Gujarat on 16th and 17th; Odisha during 14th- 18th August 2022.
Heavy rainfall at a few places is also likely over Chhattisgarh and Odisha during the next 24 hours.
In the north, the IMD has predicted widespread to isolated heavy rainfall over West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana on 14th; Punjab on 14th and 15th; East Uttar Pradesh from 14th-17th; Uttarakhand on 14th and 18th; and Jammu division on 15th August.
Heavy rainfall is also expected over Himachal Pradesh on 14 and 15th August. For Himachal, the weather office has issued a heavy rain alert for eight districts - Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.
As per the forecast, East Rajasthan is likely to see extremely heavy rainfall on Monday (15th August). For today, the IMD has issued an orange alert for three districts of Rajasthan - Jaisalmer, Dausa, and Alwar. Tomorrow, Baran, Bundi, and Chittorgarh are expected to see heavy rainfall.
