Making sure that India continues its medal rush at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 on Wednesday, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin and judoka Tulika Maan have secured their respective podium finishes in Birmingham. Hussamuddin made his presence felt in the 54kg- 57kg (Featherweight) quarterfinal. The Indian boxer went one-on-one against Tryagain Ndevelo on Day 6 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games hosted by England in Birmingham.
Hussamuddin got the better of his Namibia opponent to assure India of a medal in boxing. The Indian boxing managed to draw an early lead in the first round. Hussamuddin claimed the first round on a 3:2 split decision. The Indian boxer also remained ahead of his opponent by holding a slender lead following the end of the second round. Hussamuddin then sealed the last round to secure a famous win.
The medal prospect clinched the final round with a 4:1 win on points. With superstars Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain set to make headlines on Day 6, Hussamuddin has already secured a medal for India in boxing. Hussamuddin will end his CWG campaign with at least a bronze medal. Earlier, boxer Nitu Ghanghas, had also assured India of at least a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Joining the Indian boxers in the special list, India's Tulika Maan also booked her ticket for the summit clash of the women's 78kg final in judo. Maan upstaged New Zealand's Sydnee Andrews in the semi-finals of the women's 78kg event on Wednesday. The four-time national champion secured her win within three minutes. Tulika is set to take on Scotland's Sarah Adlington in the final tonight. Tulika has confirmed India's third medal in judo at the showpiece event. Earlier, L Shushila Devi and Vijay Kumar won silver and bronze medals in the women's 48kg and men's 60kg categories at the CWG 2022 on Monday.
