The recent reportings of electric two-wheelers in the country catching fire have the government, EV makers, as well as consumers worried. The number of EV fire cases that surfaced over the last few weeks can stymie the growth of the electric vehicle segment in the country, which is why the government has decided to form a committee that will investigate the cases. The government also warned EV makers of hefty penalties if found guilty of negligence and has suggested companies issue a voluntary recall to inspect and fix defective vehicles. In line with this, Ola Electric has issued a recall that includes over 1,400 electric scooters. It is a voluntary recall that affects 1,441 electric scooters.

The EV maker noted that its scooter batteries already comply with AIS 156 standards and ECE 136 European standards. The recall, however, is a pre-emptive step taken by the company and will go a long way to reassure customers.
It is worth noting that Ola isn't the first electric two-wheeler maker to issue a recall. Okinawa Autotech recently recalled over 3,000 EV units while Pure EV recalled over 2,000 electric scooters last week.
