New Delhi: At least nine students from Jamia Millia Islamia have been booked by the Delhi Police for allegedly fighting on the college campus and continuing the brawl at South Delhi’s Holy Family Hospital, where a student of the college was shot, on Thursday night.
Police investigation said that a fight had occurred between two groups of students inside the Jamia library on Thursday, allegedly over a woman student.
A few of the students sustained injuries in the brawl and were and taken to Holy Family Hospital, where they again fought over the same issue. In the meantime, one of the students opened fire a bullet on a student inside the emergency ward of the hospital, reported The Indian Express.
The student, who sustained minor injuries as the bullet grazed his head, was taken to the trauma centre at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.
Sources said one group of students hails from Western Uttar Pradesh while the second group is from Mewat district in Haryana.
“During the investigation, we found that the first group was upset after one of their woman friends, who also hails from UP, started speaking to the students of the second group from Mewat. They fought over this petty issue as they did not want her interacting with the other group,” said an officer as quoted by The Indian Express.
Esha Pandey, DCP (Southeast) informed three students have been arrested and booked under sections of criminal intimidation, attempted culpable homicide, and illegal confinement.
“The students from the second group, which fired on the student from the rival group inside the hospital, have been identified. Six other students have been apprehended and booked under sections of the Arms Act and attempted murder,” said DCP Pandey as quoted by The Indian Express.
