Amritsar: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been sent to police remand for eight days in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala. Bishnoi was produced before the Amritsar district court on Tuesday which remanded him in the police custody till July 6, said reports.
“Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been sent to police remand till July 6,” said Amritsar ACP Palwinder Singh to the news agency ANI. Bishnoi was brought to the Amritsar district court amid heavy security arrangements.
Earlier on June 14, the Patiala House Court of Delhi had allowed Punjab Police to arrest Bishnoi in connection with Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder case. The court also allowed the Punjab Police transit application and directed Punjab Police to ensure that the medical examination of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi is conducted as per law/rules before leaving Delhi and also before his production before the concerned court of CJM in Punjab's Mansa, as per the ANI report.
Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Jawaharke village of Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover among 424 others.
Punjab Police had earlier told the Patiala House Court that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is an accused in Moose Wala's murder case. During the investigation, it was revealed that Lawrence Bishnoi was the mastermind of the murder and his custodial interrogation is necessary, reported TOI.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s father had moved the Supreme Court on Monday challenging various orders, including the transit remand order of a Delhi court, in the murder case of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and also complained that lawyers in Punjab had boycotted his son and were not willing to represent him.
Advocate Sangram Singh Saron told a vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala that they had challenged the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and a Delhi court granting transit remand but since no lawyer in the Mansa court in Punjab is taking up Bishnoi’s case, he had approached the top court.
“Since Punjab Police are investigating the case, it is at a very nascent stage. It would not be appropriate for this court to interfere at this stage,” said the bench.
The bench further stated that the murder had taken place in Mansa in Punjab and therefore, it is the jurisdiction of Punjab Police to investigate the case and they can very well take him (Bishnoi) on remand and agreed to hear the plea of Bishnoi's father on July 11.
