Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday forecasted a slow Monsoon for the next few days in Pune. The weather department said that only very light to light showers is likely in the city till June 19.
Up till June 15, Pune (Shivajinagar) has only received 28mm rainfall in this season with parts of the state experiencing sluggish progress in Monsoon. Although the IMD had already forecast very light to light rains for the city, In the past few days, the rainfall amounts reported by most locations in the city have been scarce to nil.
In the last couple of weeks, Shivajinagar received rain only three times - on June 10, 11, and 12. According to the IMD data, the amounts of rainfall for June 10 and 12 were nearly insignificant being 0.3mm and 2.1mm, respectively, while on June 11, the location received 25.6mm of rainfall.
A private weather forecaster Skymet Weather Services, in an update on Wednesday,talked about Pune's adjoining locations like Mumbai experiencing scarce rainfall as well. The forecaster said, "After the onset of the monsoon on June 11, and some moderate rains for three days, there has been a slight reduction in rain over Mumbai at the moment. For the last three days, rains have been minimal over Mumbai and so will be the case until June 17, till which time rains will be light and patchy in the coastal city."
On Wednesday, most stations where IMD regularly monitors rainfall recorded nil rainfall, while others got minimal rain. Mahabaleshwar witnessed 0.2mm rainfall from 8.30 am till 5.30 pm on Wednesday, Sangli 0.1mm, Mumbai (Colaba) 4mm, Gondia 13mm, and Nagpur 5mm in the same period.
