Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is considering the use of smaller vehicles for back roads and Peth area roads maintenance. The PMC's road maintenance vans are now too large to go onto small roadways.
“We will find options like smaller pickup vans or vehicles for bylanes. The contractors will be told to provide the service in lanes, too,” said V G Kulkarni, head of the PMC’s water supply department. “The details of road work and contractors are being scrutinised. We will hold the contractor of defect liability period road responsible for substandard work,” said Vikram Kumar, PMC administrator.
Officials from the road department stated that they intend to expand the mobile road service and that the desire for smaller vans from the public will be taken into consideration.
Earlier, After receiving criticism for the city's pothole-filled roads following the rain, the Pune Municipal Corporation asserted on Tuesday that 90% of the necessary repairs had been made in only three days. However, city residents who live in and commute through the impacted regions of the city continue to voice their annoyance about the terrible state of the roadways.
“The PMC has undertaken road repair works on a war-footing for the damage caused due to the rain. Around 90 per cent of the road repair works have been completed in three days from July 15 to 18,” added municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar.
A resident of Budhwar Peth named Umesh Deshpande said to TOI, “Two-wheeler riders often skid and sustain injuries. Health issues like back problems are on the rise,” he said.
