Jharkhand: In what can be termed as the most atrocious way of dealing with the students, another shocker has come into limelight from tribal heartland.
A school teacher has been apprehended for brutally trashing Class VI students with wooden canes. The teacher did not stop here, he even locked the students inside a classroom for not dancing properly. The shocking incident occurred in Jharkhand’s Gumla district. The accused teacher has been identified as Vikas Tiril Ekka
As many as thirteen students of St. Michael’s English Medium School in Gumla, who were thrashed by their teacher, Vikas Tiril Ekka, had to be admitted to the local community health centre (CHC). However, the students were discharged after first-aid, The New Indian Express reported. All the 13 children are aged around 14 years.
Meanwhile, Ekka was arrested on September 29 after the parents and other local residents staged a protest. The parents said that they approached the school principal, but no action was taken against the teacher. The injured students said the incident took place on September 28, when Ekka got enraged with them for not dancing properly during the preparations for a cultural programme.
“While he was beating us, the teacher broke four canes but he did not stop. He kept on slapping and punching us till he got exhausted,” the children said in a written complaint sub-mitted to the block development officer (BDO). “The BDO submitted a report in this regard on the basis of which the Deputy Commissioner (DC) recommended lawful action against the teacher. An FIR was then lodged against him,” said Gumla SP as quoted by The New Indian Express.
The cultural event that was slated for September 29 for which the students were gearing up has been cancelled.
