Maharashtra: Man arrested after gold, cash worth ₹1.71 cr found in his possession in Thane

The man was seeing waiting at the railway station behaving suspiciously. The RPF personnel on duty brought him in for questioning. When they searched him, they found him in possession of gold and cash. When asked he said he was a gold trader but failed to produce any documents related to them.

Thane: Thane’s Titwala RPF officials arrested a man after he was found to be in possession of cash and gold worth ₹1.71 crore. The man was arrested after he got off from Pushpak Express train. The RPF officials arrested him after he failed to provide relevant documents for the gold jewellery found in his possession.
The case was later handed over to the income tax officials.
Officials told the media that on October 1, a person arrived at Titwala platform in 12533 Pushpak express and got off the train. While the man was waiting for someone at the station, RPF officials patrolling the platform noticed him because he was behaving in a suspicious manner. On duty staff head constable, LB Wagh and MSF staff Shubham Khare detained the person on suspicion and brought him to the RPF post of Titwala for further probe, Hindustan Times reported.
Another officer from RPF Titwala team, said, “Initially, the man gave different answers and kept changing details about his residence. Later, during the enquiry he disclosed his name and said he was a resident of Kamote, Navi Mumbai. On being asked, he stated that he was into gold trading and was returning from Lucknow. During further enquiry about his belongings the man could not give any satisfactory answer. We then informed the income tax authorities and them for further action in the matter.”
The RPF officials added, “The cash bundles were counted in the presence of witnesses and income tax officials and found 11,200 notes of ₹500 denomination totaling to ₹56 lakh. Also, we called authorised gold valuer who certified that the yellow metal and yellow ornaments found with the man with a total valued ₹1.15 crore. Therefore, a total of ₹1.71 crore was found in possession of the man. Since the authorities suspected it to be a case of illegal transportation of Indian currency and gold, the case was handed over to Income Tax authority for further investigation."
