United States: An Ohio woman’s fourth child turned out to be particularly impatient and ended up being born in her driveway before she could even leave for the hospital. Alyson Michael, of Medina County, delivered her baby in less than an hour of going into labour inside an ambulance.
The mother of four remembers feeling stomach pains about 1:30 am Tuesday and by 3:20 am, she figured out she was in labour before starting towards the stairs expecting her husband, John Smith, would be driving her to the hospital.
"I was like at the bedroom door and that's when I felt it and I was like, 'Call 911 and get me downstairs,' and that's when I knew we weren't making it," Michael recalled in a statement to WEWS-TV. “She was wanting to make an appearance. That's for sure. She has three brothers she has to keep up with."
She was assisted by deputies from the Medina County sheriff's office before a Westfield Fire and Rescue crew responded.
Michael was loaded into an ambulance, however, the EMTs immediately realised the baby was going to be born before they could even make it to hospital, UPI reported.
"As soon as I moved the cord, she landed right in my hands," firefighter and EMT Brandy Crall recollected. "I looked at my monitor and I was like 3:47! Time of birth! That was the highlight of my career. Absolutely nothing tops it."
The fire agency posted on Facebook a picture of the emergency responders present with the family in a hospital room.
"It is not everyday in this job that we have a joyful and happy outcome and I greatly appreciate these responders' hard work and dedication to the Westfield community," it said.
