The India-England 3rd ODI ended with spinner Deepti Sharma making full use of the new rules. The all-rounder ran out Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end to propel India to a 16-run win. The run-out meant India defeated the Three Lions and gave a winning farewell to Jhulan Goswami.
Earlier, running out a batter at the non-striker's end was called Mankading. As per the new rules, it is now called run-out and Deepti made the correct decision to run out the batter who was trying to take unfair advantage.
Dean and Freya Davies posed a big threat to India's hopes of whitewashing the hosts as they added 35 runs for the 10th wicket. With England sensing a win, it needed an extra effort from India and Deepti outsmarted the non-striker.
Cricket expert Alison Mitchell noticed that Charlotte was backing up a lot before she got dismissed. "Anyone notice whether Dean had been backing up a lot previously? A legitimate way for Deepti to dismiss her… Like it or not. But… my. Scenes at Lord’s. #EngvInd," she wrote on Twitter.
With this win, India have whitewashed England 3-0 in the series. After the win, the players paid a tribute to retiring Jhulan Goswami and lifted her on their shoulders. Jhulan played a key role in the win and bowled a brilliant spell of 10-3-30-2. She dismissed Kate Cross for 10 in the final over of her spell.
Renuka Singh shone with the ball and took a four-for. The right-arm pacer was bestowed with the Player of the Match award for her heroics.
With the bat, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma played their part in the win. Mandhana scored 50 off 79 balls while Deepti remained unbeaten on 68 as India finished at 169 in 45.4 overs. The fixture marked an end to England's home summer.
