Eoin Morgan has turned a year older and the former England captain is celebrating his 36th birthday today (September 10). England's only 50-over World Cup-winning captain so far, Morgan took over the top role in 2015 and captained the side till 2022.
In June this year, just 4 months before T20 World Cup, Morgan announced his retirement from international cricket. He continues to play professional cricket but won't be seen batting for England again. He has also taken up commentary and is a part-time cricket expert.
But before playing for England, Morgan got his first taste of international cricket for Ireland. Morgan, England's first 50-over World Cup-winning captain, was born in Dublin, Ireland. And he represented the Irish nation before moving to England.
In the 2007 World Cup, Morgan faced James Anderson, the player who he would go on to lead 8 years later. The left-handed batsman made his Ireland debut in 2006 and played for them till 2009.
He moved to England in 2009 and played his first game for the Three Lions in T20 World Cup. He became a permanent member of the white-ball teams and was part of the side that lifted the 2010 T20 World Cup trophy.
Six years later, Morgan-led England were on the cusp of becoming the first team to win the T20 WC trophy twice but Carlos Brathwaite's heroics ruined that dream.
England became a powerhouse in white-ball cricket after the 2015 World Cup and their approach has now been adopted by India as well.
Morgan was being assisted by Jos Buttler for the past few years and the wicketkeeper-batsman replaced him as the captain in June. Under Buttler, England will enter the 2022 T20 World Cup as one of the strongest title contenders.
Morgan wasn't making enough contributions with the bat of late and the team might not miss his services much.
