Touchdown! Akasa Air’s first aircraft lands in India

New Delhi: “First time in eight years – a domestic jet aircraft with new livery seen in Indian skies,” ace investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed airline Akasa Air said on Tuesday as it welcomed the arrival of the first of its 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
India’s newest airline received the ceremonial keys for the aircraft at Seattle, USA on June 15th, 2022. Further, the delivery of the carrier’s first aircraft brings it even closer to receiving the Air Operator’s Permit (AOP), which is needed to launch commercial operations in the country.
Commenting on the timely arrival of the aircraft, Vinay Dube, Founder, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Akasa Air said, “The arrival of our first aircraft is a very happy moment for all of us and marks an important milestone, bringing us closer to our vision of building India’s greenest, most dependable, and most affordable airline.”
Stating that it is a testimony to the country’s vibrant start-up ecosystem, Dube added that Akasa Air is a prime example of the progress made by Indian aviation in recent years. This is not just a significant milestone for us and Indian aviation, but it’s the story of a new India, he noted.
Akasa Air’s total order of 72 aircraft includes an initial delivery of 18 aircraft by March 2023, followed by delivery of the remaining 54 aircraft over the course of the next four years.
Boeing too commented on the delivery of the first aircraft saying, “We are proud to partner with Akasa Air as they embark on their journey towards making air travel inclusive and affordable for all.” Salil Gupte, president, Boeing India, said, “We are excited that the advanced 737 MAX will help Akasa Air drive efficiencies in business and operations while providing its customers with a superior flying experience.”
The airline has a commitment to being socially responsible. The 737 MAX family aircraft deliver superior efficiency in reducing fuel use and carbon emissions, thus, fulfilling Akasa Air’s airline's promise of being an environmentally friendly company with the youngest and greenest fleet in the Indian skies.
