New Delhi: The monsoon is knocking at our doors and we are ready for the refreshing and revitalising weather after a few months of blazing heat. Rain brings a smile to everyone’s face, but with it comes trials and tribulations of their own. The humidity affects hair leading them to lose moisture and shine making them frizzy and brittle.
Most people suffer from hair fall which can even be a reason for stress and depression.
Doctors believe that hair fall increases in over 30 per cent of cases already battling hair and skin issues. Normally, it is okay to lose 60-70 strands of hair per day, but the number can increase up to 500 in severe cases. Hair fall is mainly caused due to scalp dryness and dandruff.

Hair care tips in monsoon

Modifying a hair routine according to the weather is not possible owing to busy lifestyles, but there are a few easy tips you can follow to combat seasonal hair loss.
  1. Cover your head: When outdoors during monsoon, make sure to always cover your head with a scarf, cap, or an umbrella to avoid getting them wet. Rainwater is acidic with so many pollutants mixed in it, and so it can cause hair roots to weaken and wither.
  2. Warm oil massage: Indulge in warm or hot oil massage during the monsoons to help the hair retain its moisture. Also, it will help nourish the scalp and increase blood circulation.
  3. Eat healthily: Whatever we eat reflects on our bodies. A healthy diet, especially in monsoons, is very important for skin and hair. Stop too much caffeine as it tends to dehydrate the scalp and drink lots of water. Also, eat food that is rich in vitamin E and iron to get healthy and lustrous tresses.
  4. Use natural ingredients: The markets today are filled with various hair care products that are riddled with chemicals that do more harm than good. It is best to use natural ingredients available in the kitchen that do wonders for hair and skin. Aloe vera gel, lemon, honey, bananas, egg, mint, yogurt, etc. are packed with anti-bacterial properties that help hair get the required nourishment.
  5. Use a parabens-free shampoo: From the wide variety of shampoos available in the market, always choose according to your scalp and hair quality. Avoid shampoos with parabens and sulphates and buy the ones that have natural extracts.
