Odisha: Officials intercept SUV looking for drugs, stumble on Rs 12 lakh cash, 100 kg silver bricks; 2 held

Odisha: In an unexpected turn of event, over 100 kg of silver bricks, ornaments including cash of around Rs 12 lakh were confiscated from a secret chamber of a SUV car by a team of excise officials.
The confiscation was done at a toll gate on NH-16 in Cuttack district after receiving an input. Officials said the vehicle was intercepted on a tip-off that there would be an attempt to smuggle drugs through the toll gate.
Two people were apprehended after the interception. Excise officials said two persons, Dilip Mandal and Atulya Pal, resident of Kolkata, were on their way from Ganjam’s Aska to Kharagpur in West Bengal in a SUV when they were intercepted at NHAI tollgate at Tangi in Cuttack district. On searching, the excise officials recovered over 100 kg of silver bricks and Rs12 lakh cash from them, Hindustan Times reported.
Senior official Excise department deputy stated that the guards were posted at the toll gate last night over tip-offs that a huge cache of narcotics was to pass through the tollgate. Our staff found this car speeding towards the toll gate and stopped it. On searching, the staff recovered the silver bricks and cash from a secret chamber in the car.
A senior officer stated that the GST officials have been informed and they will interrogate the two arrested persons. One of the accused during interrogation told the excise officials that he was to be paid Rs 1,000 for every day of travel apart from an extra amount of Rs 3,000.
