Former Afghan special operations forces (SOF) trained by the US and other western allies are now fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia, reports The War Zone. The highly trained Afghan soldiers, who fled to Iran after the Taliban takeover following US’ withdrawal in 2021, are being scouted by Moscow to fight in Ukraine alongside Russian forces. Many of the thousands of ex-Afghan troops, including about 5,000 ex-SOF soldiers present in Iran, are being recruited by the Kremlin, as per the report.
