Captain Ajinkya Rahane makes a memorable return, smashes double century for West Zone in Duleep Trophy

Ajinkya Rahane has scored a double-century on his return to competitive cricket. Leading West Zone in Duleep Trophy, Rahane led from the front and remained unbeaten on 207 at stumps. Prithvi Shaw scored a century while Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a double-century in the first innings.

Ajinkya Rahane has made a memorable return to cricket after recovering from a hamstring injury and scored a double-century for West Zone against the North East Zone. Leading West Zone in the quarter-finals of Duleep Trophy, Rahane came out to bat on the 2nd day and was batting at 207 off 264 at stumps.
The right-handed batsman has hit 18 boundaries and 6 sixes in his knock so far. With two days of play still left, West Zone is likely to bat for at least one more session and Rahane will eye his maiden triple-century in first-class cricket.
West Zone rode on a solid start by youngsters Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo added 206 runs for the first wicket before Shaw departed for 113 off 121. Yashasvi, who is emerging as the next big thing, breached the 200-run mark and was dismissed for 228 off 321. He added 333 runs for the 2nd wicket with Rahane.
Following Yashasvi's dismissal, Rahul Tripathi joined Rahane and finished the day at an unbeaten 25. West Zone have dominated their opponents so far and are 590/2 after the end two days. A win or a draw will see West Zone move into the semi-final. An easy win is the cards for the Rahane-led side.
Talking of the 2nd quarter-final, North Zone bowled out East Zone for 397. Navdeep Saini and Nishant Sindhu scalped 3 wickets each. North Zone's openers Yash Dhull and Manan Vohra batted pretty quickly in the last session and finished the day at 64/0 in 12.4 overs.
All eyes are on Yash, who led India U-19 team to a World Cup win earlier this year. The right-handed batsman has 479 runs in only three Ranji Trophy matches and he will now eye to replicate his form in the zonal competition.
