Spanish family breaks Guinness World Record for highest combined age of 12 living siblings
A family of 12 siblings in Spain broke a Guinness World Record when their combined age was confirmed to be 1,058 years and 249 days. Born, reared and still living in the town of Moya on the island of Gran Canaria, the Hernandez-Perez siblings aged between 76 and 97.
The oldest sibling, Jose Hernandez-Perez, is turning 98 in December. The youngest, Luis Hernandez-Perez, turned 76 in April.
The dozen that includes seven brothers and five sisters told Guinness World Records they had never thought they would break a world record until they found out about a category.
"It all started as a joke during a family reunion in June. Then, after seeing a newspaper article titled '12 siblings count more than 1000 years,' we started gathering information and reached out to Guinness World Records," they said in a statement.
“The best thing about living with so many siblings is that we always had company, and we’ve done everything together. School, playtime, work, we’ve done it together. We always help and take care of each other.”
With their remarkable numbers, they broke the previous record set by the D'cruz family of Pakistan, whose combined age measured a total of 1,042 years and 315 days as of December 2020.
Previously, 4 sisters with a combined age of 389 years broke the Guinness World Record for the highest combined age of four living siblings, in the United States.
Arlowene Johnson Overskei (101), Marcene Johnson Scully (99), Doris Johnson Gaudineer (96) and Jewell Johnson Beck (93) were confirmed as having a combined age of 389 years and 197 days as of August 1, 2022.
The Johnson sisters’ quartet earned the title after they outlived the Goebel family, whose record was verified earlier this year at 383 years.
Born in Rutland, the siblings like to be known as the “quartet that loves singing” and even the fact that they’ve lived the last eight decades away from each other could hardly keep them apart.
