Ranchi: A 50-year-old woman from a remote village has accused two police personnel of raping her while she had gone out to work in the fields, cutting grass. The victim was initially admitted to a Lohardaga district hospital and has been referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi 200kilometres away, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
The victim's family rushed her to the hospital due to her injuries and were unable to register a complaint as soon as the crime took place. The woman’s police station was then informed of the crime by the authorities at Sadar hospital where the woman was admitted with grievous injuries at about 2 am on Wednesday. The rape survivor is said to be in a stable condition now.
“We have registered a case as per the statement of the survivor. She has accused two unidentified police jawans of committing the crime. We are investigating and trying to verify the allegation. Action will be taken accordingly,” said Navita Mahto, police station in-charge, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
In a similarly shocking incident earlier this week, police in Jhansi have arrested two people including a woman for the rape of a minor girl. The incident happened in Lalitpur and the accused is a neighbor of the victim.
The girl's father lodged the complaint with the police in which he told them that about three months ago one of his neighbours identified as Rajesh had lured his 16-year-old daughter and then given her sedatives and then taken advantage of her and raped her.
The girl's father further said that on the day of the incident he had gone out in the field to work while his wife had gone back to her maternal home. He said that Rajesh was helped by a woman who was his accomplice. The accused woman has been identified as Suman. Police said both the accused are in their mid-30s, Hindustan Times reported.
The father said that when he returned from the field he found his daughter in a serious condition. When he asked her what happened she could not tell him anything. So he took her to the hospital from where she was referred to the Jhansi medical college.
However, on Sunday the girl managed to narrate her entire ordeal and told the police that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
