Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is out of action these days after he suffered a knee injury during India’s Asia Cup campaign at the start of September, took to Twitter on Thursday night (September 29) to post a mysterious tweet about former Indian cricketer and now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar that is going viral on the internet.
The 33-year-old took to the microblogging and photo sharing site to post the picture of the former right-handed batter, who played 37 Tests and 74 ODIs for India, and captioned it, "Watching my dear friend on screen @sanjaymanjrekar."
The photo was taken from a television broadcast of the ongoing Legends League Cricket tournament where Manjrekar is on commentary duty. As soon as Jadeja posted the picture, fans began to wonder if it was a normal tweet or a cheeky dig at the 57-year-old Mumbai cricket stalwart.
Jadeja and Manjrekar aren’t great mates and, in fact, have a bitter history which dates back to 2019 when, during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, Manjrekar called Jadeja a "bits and pieces" cricketer.
"I am not a big fan of bits and pieces players which Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner," Manjrekar had said during commentary.
The statement back then didn't go down well with Jadeja, who took to Twitter and wrote, "Still I have played twice the number of matches you have played and I'm still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved. I have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea."
The two also shared an uneasy on-air interaction last month during the post-match interview of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match. After playing a vital role in India’s win on August 28 in Dubai, Jadeja was interviewed by Manjrekar, who had asked: "First question – You are ok to talk to me? Right, Jaddu?" Jadeja replied: "Yeah, yeah (laughs). Absolutely!!"
