Indian captain Rohit Sharma wrote his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian batter to complete 300 boundaries in the T20 format at the international level. Rohit became only the second player in the history of the shortest format after veteran Irish batter Paul Stirling to achieve this milestone.
Coming into the ongoing fixture, Kohli and Rohit were indulged in a tight race to become the first Indian to achieve the milestone as both had 298 fours to their name. However, it was opening batter Rohit who got the opportunity to win the race and two boundaries from him made him the first Indian batter to achieve the milestone. After England won the toss and chose to bowl first, Rohit gave the Men in Blue a quick start with a knock of 31 in 20 balls.
Kohli failed to complete the milestone after making just one run in 3 balls. Both Rohit and Kohli were dismissed by England's 34-year-old debutant Richard Gleeson. Gleeson also took the wicket of Rishabh Pant, who was looking in fine form during his knock of 26.
Talking about the match, after the explosive start, India found themselves in trouble at 66-3 in the seventh over. With the Test team players returning to the side, the Men in Blue made four changes as Kohli, Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah coming in for Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh.
India are looking to seal a series win after winning the series opener at Southampton on Thursday (July 7). Hardik Pandya was the hero for the visitors with a half-century with the bat. He later stunned the hosts with the ball by taking four key wickets which included the dismissal of Jason Roy, Liam Livignstone, Dawid Malan, and Sam Curran.
If India seal a series win today, it will be their second consecutive in the shortest format on English soil having beat them in 2018 too.
