Devi Paksha (ten days post Pitru Paksha) is a phase dedicated to Shakti, hailed as Durga. And though Navratri is observed four times a year during change of seasons - Magha (winter), Vasanta (Spring), Ashadha (Monsoon) and Sharad (Autumn), the one falling in autumn in the month of Ashwin is the most important, and it is known as Shardiya Navratri.
On the Saptami Tithi, seventh day of Ashwin Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Lunar cycle in the Hindu month of Ashwin), devotees worship Maa Durga's Kalaratri avatar. This year, Shardiya Navratri celebrations commenced on September 26, and today, on Saptami, devotees shall pay tribute to the Kalaratri form of the Mother Goddess.

Maa Kalaratri
Kalaratri, the fiercest form of Devi Durga, is seen mounted on a donkey. She is known for her dark complexion and the third eye. Endowed with four hands, she holds a scimitar and a thunderbolt in the upper and lower left hands, the Abhaya and Vara Mudra in the two right hands, respectively.
She is also hailed as Shubhankari (the one who does good). Interestingly, Kalaratri Maa governs Shani (Saturn). Therefore, those suffering from Shani Dosha worship her to rid themselves of its adverse effects. Legend suggests that this avatar of the Mother Goddess destroys evil to restore peace and Dharma.

Abhijeet Muhurat: 11:47 AM to 12:34 PM
Vijay Muhurat: 2:09 PM to 2:56 PM
Godhuli Muhurat: 5:54 PM to 6:18 PM
Maa Kalaratri Puja Vidhi
Invoke Lord Ganesha (Vighnaharta) and seek his blessings for a hurdle-free Navratri vrat.
Then, invoke Maa Kalaratri by chanting the following Mantras.

1)Om Devi Kalaratryai Namah
2) Ekaveni Japakarnapura Nagna Kharasthita।
Lamboshthi Karnikakarni Tailabhyakta Sharirini॥
Vamapadollasalloha Latakantakabhushana।
Vardhana Murdhadhwaja Krishna Kalaratrirbhayankari॥
3) Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Ma Kalaratri Rupena Samsthita।

Perform the Panchopchara puja by offering Gandham, Pushpam, Deepam, Sugandham and Naivedyam (blog).
Conclude the puja by singing the Aarti and offer your salutations to her by lighting the camphor.
After the puja, distribute prasad.

Offer jaggery or ladoos made of jaggery as bhog.
Kalaratri Katha
A demon named Raktabeej caused massive destruction on the earth and in the Devaloka. He grew invincible, and every drop of his blood that fell on the ground grew into a demon as powerful as him. Therefore, the Devas sought Lord Shiva's help, who, in turn, asked his consort Parvati to eliminate Raktabeej. Hence, Maa Parvati transformed into the fierce Kalaratri to restore peace.
