Manchester United have gotten off to a horror start in the Premier League 2022-23 with two consecutive defeats. after a 2-1 loss to Brighton in their first game last week, United suffered a hammering at the hands of Brentford as the Red Devils haven't gotten off to a start in the Erik ten Hag-era.
While the goalkeeper David de Gea found himself in the middle of a couple of errors, Brentford just kept finding the net, so much so that all the four goals were inside the first half. The result led to United staking claim at the bottom place in the table, for the first time in 30 years as it also led to a massive flak on social media. Not just the fans but football players too questioned the team management.
Former Liverpool and England star Stan Collymore wrote RIP on Twitter while saying that the ownership has killed the club. "Manchester United, Rest In Peace. Killed by ownership who put corporate over football, frittered away the inheritance of a dominant 20 years and didn't listen to the original Green and Gold campaign when they warned of this. Sad to see," Collymore said.
The new manager Ten Hag was naturally disappointed after the defeat but he came down severely on his side saying that he just substituted three players but he could have done them all. He said that Brentford were more hungry and his team played very conservatively.
"I subbed three but I could've changed them all.
"It was naive how we played today. You have to play more directly. We attracted them, the space was high up the pitch, you have to. You do that option, but that is what we didn't do. We will learn, we will have to learn, it's not good enough and it's not the level and the standard of how we want to act," he added.
United will now play Liverpool on August 23 and the Red Devils will hope to revive their campaign, which is sliding down rather quickly.
