Threat to Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde: One person held, Devendra Fadnavis assures action

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde received a death threat on Saturday evening. The development comes days before Shinde's first Dussehra rally on October 5.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Monday, said that the state government has taken serious cognizance of the inputs regarding the threat to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Stressing that the CM's security is important, Fadnavis said that the person who issued the threat to Eknath Shinde has been arrested.
"We have taken seriously the input about the threat to the life of CM Shinde. The person who gave a threat to CM yesterday has been arrested. CM's security is important, our focus is on it," Deputy CM and Home minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Nagpur, news agency ANI quoted.
According to the State intelligence Department (SID), the threat was received on Saturday evening. "After specific information, we have taken necessary action and have increased the security of the chief minister," SID commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Security beefed up at Shinde's residence
CM Shinde is provided a Z-plus security cover and security has been beefed up at his official residence Varsha following the threat. Responding to the threat, Shinde had said that the state Home Department and Deputy CM Fadnavis were capable to handling the threats.
"I don't pay attention to it. Our home dept and home minister Devendra Fadnavis are capable and we trust them. I won't be scared of such threats, nobody can stop me from working for the public. I will continue to work for them," Shinde told news agency ANI. The development comes days ahead of the Dussehra rally that Shinde is slated to hold at the MMRDA grounds on October 5.
