Delhi Metro celebrates Daan Utsav, give-away counters set up at 45 metro stations

Every year, the DMRC conducts different programmes to mark the Daan Utsav, also known as the ‘Joy of Giving Week’, a festival of philanthropy observed from October 2 to 8.

New Delhi: In connection with the 'Daan Utsav', the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has set up donation counters in 45 Metro stations to celebrate the festival of giving. The Metro officials urged commuters to take part in the initiative in large numbers. People can donate items to designated counters set up at the Metro stations till October 8 to celebrate the 'Joy of Giving Week'.
Apart from the kiosks at 45 Metro stations, the DMRC also installed collection points at staff quarters.
As part of the celebrations, the DMRC alsohosted a puppet show for children on Thursday. The event was held at the Metro Museum in Patel Chowk and several children under the leadership of an NDO Saarthak Prayas enjoyed the show.
"The donation drive was conducted as part of the 'Joy of Giving Week' celebrations. We conduct different kinds of programmes each year to spread the message of charging and giving out. This year, a collection drive is also going on and a puppet show was also held. The children enjoyed it very well," a DMRC official said. A joy ride in the Metro was also organised for the participants.
The give away counters saw remarkable participation from commuters. "This is a commendable initiative by the Delhi Metro as it would help spread the message about philanthropy. People, especially the youth, should come forward and take part in large numbers," a passenger who joined the drive at Saket metro station said.
The stations having donation points include Shahdara, Seelampur, Netaji Subhash Place, Rohini Sector 18-19, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Vishwavidyalaya, Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, INA, Hauz Khas, Saket, Qutab Minar, MG Road, Sikanderpur, Huda City Centre, Noida City Centre, Botanical Garden, Kirti Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Dwarka Sec 12, Dwarka Sec 21, Kalkaji Mandir, Lajpat Nagar, Shivaji Stadium and several others.
Daan Utsav, also known as the ‘Joy of Giving Week,’ is a ‘festival of philanthropy’ observed from October 2 to 8, which coincides with the birth of Mahatama Gandhi. It encourages people to donate in whichever form possible, either material or through service.
